Hunan Week in Milan Expo

June 20th, 2015 not only marks the Chinese Dragon Boat Festival, but also embarks on the opening of Hunan Week in Milan Expo. By then, there will be a large number of Hunan culture featured exhibits presented in this international fashion capital. Now let’s take the first bite of the Hunan-style exhibition.

(Hybrid Rice )

Hybrid rice cultivation technique led by Academician Yuan Longping plays a key role in fighting world food shortages. The presentation of hybrid rice in China Corporate United Pavilion in Milan Expo will demonstrate China’s capability of intelligent manufacturing.

(Golden Bridge on Silk Road")

"Taking Zhaozhou Bridge in China as its model, the Sculpture "Golden Bridge on Silk Road" created by the Hunan artist Shu Yong integrates with the national or city flowers of 65 countries and nearly 100 cities along "One Belt and One Road", which expresses peace and beauty of Chinese culture to the world.

(Liuyang Chrysanthemum Stone)

Hunan Week will demonstrate the one and only "stone flower" in this Expo--"The Queen of Chrysanthemum Stone". With the mellow color, huge “petals”, hardness texture, this four-month-craved colored chrysanthemum stone earns its name in terms of material and shape and shows Chinese beauty in nature and life.

(Liling Under-glazed Colored Porcelain)

As a traditional Han ethnic ceramic decorative artwork, under-glazed colored porcelain is produced in Liling County, Zhuzhou City, Hunan. As one of the national intangible cultural heritages, it once won a gold medal at the World Expo in San Francisco in 1915 .

(The Xiang Embroidery "One Hundred Horses" )

Thanks to 95 days' painstaking efforts of over 20 embroiderers, this "magical artwork" reproduces the painting "One Hundred Horses" by Italian Painter Lang Shining (Giuseppe Castiglione) who served as a painter at the court of the emperor of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1912).

( Collection of Chairman Mao Porcelain)

"Chairman Mao Porcelain" refers to Chairman Mao-themed eggshell china produced in Liling County and the Town of Jingde in the 1970s. The Milan Expo will see a porcelain collection including red-winter sweet cups and saucers, cotton-rose mallow bowls and which marks the highest level of China's porcelain production at that time.

(The Seal Carving Work of Li Sao)

The exhibited seal carving work Li Sao combined by 150 seals vividly renders Chinese traditional culture and exquisite carving art to world .

(Stone Carving  Food for Life)

The displayed carving work Food for Life presents a harvest scene. With an image of grain swaying in the breeze, it fully reflects the theme “Humanity’s most fundamental relationship is with what we eat”.

(Hunan Xiangjiao Liquor)

Over a half century of progress, Hunan Xiangjiao Liquor has developed its own unique “traditional 6 brewing methods ”. As the only Hunan liquor representative, it shows Hunan culture’s spirit and charm to the world.

(Xianglushan Tea)

As one of the six major tea types in China, Anhua Dark Tea is well known as a “drinkable antique” since ancient time. Because of its limited availability as well as unique and complicated production process, Xianglushan Tea is regarded as Hunan dark tea’s “origin and soul”.
